Hey everyone, I know I've been silent on the blog lately. Having a new baby has been hard on my free time. Anyway I finally got around to putting up the majority of the photos that we have taken of Aven on the web so feel free to browse through them if you want.

What's new . . .

What's new this week, you ask? Well, our daughter is still adorable and we have discovered the magic of The Happiest Baby on the Block. A wonderful method for calming a fussy, crying baby. I would recommend this to anyone with an infant. We watched the DVD, which was great. There is also a book that goes into more detail, which I hope to be able to devote some time to reading this week. The Happiest Baby method totally saved my sanity yesterday.


In other exciting news, a squirrel has decided to take up residence in the tree right on the other side of our fence. This means hours of entertainment for the canine member of our family. Don't worry, the squirrel is not in any danger, Grace is much too lumbering and clumsy to ever catch a living thing. She sure does like to stand at the base of a tree containing any kind of small rodent and watch excitedly as said rodent obviously taunts her. Well, obvious to everyone but her.

Happy 2 Week Birthday!

Aven officially turned 2 weeks old yesterday and had her 2 week Dr. appointment today. What better way to celebrate than with more photos of our gorgeous girl. She has packed on a whopping 9 ounces since birth and has grown a whole half inch taller and is getting more wiggly by the day. This is a healthy baby.

Here she is concentrating really hard on her polka dot cow while enjoying her pacifier.

I would be remiss if I did not post a picture of my daughter's first obscene gesture. This pretty much sums up her thoughts on diaper changes and baths.

Aven in her first pair of jeans. She's already quite stylish.

A Few of My Favorite Parts

So many irresistible little parts to admire. The new thing I noticed today are two hairs on the crown of her head that are about and inch and a half long, twice as long as all the other hairs on her head. I have a strong urge to spike them up with pomade because they're so cute.

400 Photographs and Counting . . .

Our lovely daughter is now 1 week old, almost to the minute actually, and she has had somewhere around 400 photographs taken of her so far. I'm not sure if there have been 400 photos taken of me my entire life. I guess we love her or something.

She has socks on her hands because her little finger nails were like razors until I filed them down. The pediatrician told us not to cut them yet because he has seen many babies with fingertips cut off by nail clippers.


I'm not quite sure what Grace thinks of her yet. She is very curious though.

And last but not least is a picture of my mom holding Aven. Ian neglected to put one in the last post, but she has had a ton of Grandma Malecker time so far.

Born May 12th 5:17 pm

She's 7 pounds 10 ounces 20.5 inches long.
Cara and Baby Aven are doing fine, Aven's finally fallen asleep after eating. shes been poked prodded weighed and washed and she's doing great.
Cara was induced at 12:50 she had a great delivery. Aven finally decided to come out so she came out quickly. I'll post more photos later.

It's almost time.

Cara got a call yesterday from the hospital. They were worried about some tests that showed she might have pre-eclampsia, basically high blood pressure during pregnancy. So since she's 4 days over due anyway they scheduled her for an induction today. That's right Aven your coming out now, we are tired of waiting. The hospital should be calling us anytime now to let us know to come in and get it started. Were all packed and ready to go. There should be some cute baby pics posted sometime later tonight.

Ian Bailey, MCMP

After two years of hard work Ian graduated May 8, 2009 with his Masters in City and Metropolitan Planning. Here he is with professor and mentor Tom Sanchez. I hate that I was so busy getting photos of him walking to really truly get wrapped up in this amazing moment in his life.

I know that this picture is blurry, but I feel it is artistically sound. It's probably my favorite one.

There's Ian on the right with all his fellow MCMP graduates. It was nice that his class was small. It allowed him to make some good friends.

Beautiful Bleeding Hearts

I was excited that my Bleeding Heart bushes not only came back this year, but are hearty and thriving. After having a few near-death experiences from Grace laying on them last year they have decided to come back too big to be squashed by a dog who loves laying in the dirt.

It's amazing how perfectly formed each of the flowers are.

These are some sort of bulb flower that I don't know the name of but are in every yard in my neighborhood. They are very sweet smelling and are always wonderful to see in the spring.

This is a shot of my Sweet Woodruff ground cover. It spreads fast and is great for the shade. I just love the petite white flowers. For the first time since we moved in my front flower beds finally look nice and filled in. It only took me four years to figure out which plants would survive- yay me!
